The grades come from a grid with cells of around 0.5 square kilometres. In cities, statistical areas are smaller than a single cell: 4,272 of 13,519 areas, home to 43 percent of the population. They share a grade with neighbouring areas in the same cell. The map shows how well an area is served, not differences from block to block.

SSB withholds population figures for 168 areas with one or two residents.

The map shows settlement areas within statistical boundaries, using OpenStreetMap buildings, land use, hotels, sports facilities and other mapped sites. Nearby buildings are joined and small gaps filled; sea and mapped water are removed. These are inferred display boundaries, not surveyed settlement limits. Missing map data can leave gaps. Where OSM leaves gaps, populated 250 metre SSB cells provide a coarse fallback. Grades are unchanged; the finer geometry adds no new measurements.
